Costa Rica surfing gives surfers many different places to choose from in order to catch the waves and pick the best ones to ride out of the sets that come in. Some of the beaches have different rules that you will need to be aware of especially when it comes to camping out on the beach in order to catch the waves. Each beach is different so you need to make sure you check it out.

One of the most beautiful places to go surfing is Matapalo and it has three different breaks in the water. What makes this spot so nice is the ability to see some wonderful scenery with parrots and monkeys jumping from one tree to the next enjoying their day. Avoid this place during the holidays because it has a tendency to get crowded by the locals who do not have to work and want to spend the day at the beach or on the waves.

One of the most famous places for Costa Rica surfing is Ollies Point (Nicoya Peninsula) because it was featured in the well known surfing classic Endless Summer. It is said that Robert August can still be seen paddling out to catch the waves in this area. Other popular places include Tamarindo, Playa Negra, Boca Barrnca, Pavones and many more.

What to Expect with Costa Rica Surfing
If you go at the right time of year, you can expect Costa Rica surfing to give you the opportunity to ride waves between 8 and 9 feet tall. There are times when the waves can go over ten feet tall which can be quite a test and a good time for surfers. Many times the big waves do not show up until 10 am or later during the day so you can sleep in a little from the night before which is great for many people of course you will not beat the crowds by sleeping in but every surfer knows that.
